Health & Guarantee

At HAPPY TRAIL PUPS, we stand behind the health and genetics of every puppy we raise. We believe that a healthy start is the foundation for a long, happy life. Our guarantee is designed to give you peace of mind and ensure your new companion is protected from the day they leave our nursery.

1. Initial Health Commitment

Every puppy is sold in good health and has been examined by a licensed veterinarian. At the time of pickup or delivery, your puppy will be:

Up-to-date on age-appropriate vaccinations.
De-wormed on a strict schedule.
Accompanied by a formal Health Certificate from our vet.

2. The 72-Hour “New Home” Check

To validate this guarantee, the Buyer must have the puppy examined by a licensed veterinarian within 72 hours of receiving the dog. This ensures that the puppy has transitioned safely and that your vet agrees the puppy is in excellent health.

3. Two-Year Genetic Health Guarantee

We offer a two year guarantee against life threatening congenital or hereditary defects. This includes, but is not limited to:

Severe heart defects.
Liver shunts.
Congenital kidney failure.
Other life-altering hereditary conditions.

If a licensed veterinarian confirms a life threatening genetic condition via diagnostic testing (at the buyer’s expense), we will provide a replacement puppy of equal value from our next available litter.

4. Special Provision: Spinal Health (IVDD)

As breeders of miniature dachshunds, we prioritize spinal integrity. While we breed from parents with strong backs, the Buyer understands that environmental factors (obesity, jumping from high furniture, and improper handling) play a massive role in spinal health. Our guarantee covers congenital spinal defects but does not cover injuries caused by lifestyle or accidental trauma.

5. Buyer’s Responsibilities

To maintain the validity of this guarantee, the Buyer agrees to:

Maintain the dog at a healthy weight (obesity voids the health guarantee).
Keep the dog current on all vaccinations and heartworm preventatives.
Provide a safe, indoor living environment.
Spay/Neuter: This puppy is sold as a “Pet Only” companion. Proof of spay/neuter must be provided by [10 months] of age unless otherwise agreed upon.

6. Re-Homing Policy

We never want one of our dogs to end up in a shelter. If at any point in the dog’s life you are unable to care for them, we require that you contact us first. We will always take our puppies back or assist you in finding a vetted, loving home. No refund of the purchase price will be given for returned dogs.
